Only time will tell, but early indications are very encouraging in a range of wind conditions.

New Mailing Address for Bloomfield Innovation

We have a new mailing address - PO Box 2048, Hampton East, Vic. 3188, all our other contact details remain unchanged. Our current projects include a new Formula 18 design for Windrush and two small production trimarans along with a number of larger commercial and custom yachts including a 75 foot motor sailer and 60 foot expedition motor catamarans. We are also working on a variety of custom engineering jobs covering rectification, modification and upgrades to existing vessels of all designs.

Expedition Catamaran Motor Yacths on the Horizon

Bloomfield Catamaran Designs is developing a new range of Expedition Catamaran Motor Yachts with U.S. based company 'Pacific Expedition Yachts'. The capshroud and headstay attachment system is terrific, the soft padeyes and external halyard sheaves have worked very well, and nothing shows any signs of unusual wear or chafe. The mast is very stiff."

A new carbon fibre mast design was built to replace the previous carbon fibre mast which suffered irreparable damage. The new section is lighter and stiffer than the previous mast.

The boat has had a very successful and eventful first season with the new mast. She suffered an unfortunate capsize in her first race in which the mast suffered no structural damage despite hitting the the sea bed. Following that the boat has scored in a string of races including First place in the Queens Cup, multhull line honours in the Chicago Mackinac Race and second in the Port Huron Mackinac.

The carbon mast was designed by Bloomfield Catamaran Designs and constructed by Wahoo Composites. The design incorporates a lot of proprietary technology developed by Bloomfield Catamaran Designs, which has been well proven on a number of yachts. Bloomfield Catamaran Plans offer engineering for a wide range of carbon fibre and other composite components.

45' World Cruising Catamaran Design added

We have added a new sailing catamaran design to the website, a 45' Crowther Design cruising catamaran (Design No. C462). Despite conditions not well suited to catamarans, included many hours of bashing upwind in 20-30 knots followed by square running in light to moderate breeze, the little catamaran crossed the line 12 mins ahead of the big monohull and an fleet of over 80 monohulls and multihulls, after starting 10 mins behind the monohulls. The little catamaran was unbeaten across the line during the Port Lincoln Regatta the following week. Bloomfield Catamaran Designs (who have many years experience in carbon fibre rig design) did the design work for the new rig. Wahoo Composites specialise in high tech carbon fibre parts for many applications, including multihull rigs and boats. A new 26' production racing trimaran design from Bloomfield is currently under development. The owner's own boat 'Wahoo' a 50' racing catamaran was one of the companies first projects several years ago; video of Wahoo's successful maiden race from Port Huron to Mackinac Island can be seen here with owner Ed Wheatley and designer Stuart Bloomfield aboard.

50' Crowther Catamaran Design Shaping Up

Construction on the 50' Crowther catamaran design is proceeding well with the support of Bloomfield Innovation. Thanks to the inherant strength of the design I have one less thing to worry about when bashing to windward, a worry I would definitely have on less well engineered designs."

The construction is being done by a small but dedicated team on the central coast of New South Wales on the east coast of Australia and is proceeding according to schedule.

MYCV Commodore

Stuart was recently elected Commodore of the Multihull Yacht Club of Victoria, the oldest multihull yacht club in Australia.

19m Trawler Cat

A new 19m trawler catamaran design is on the drawing board.

Bloomfield Catamaran Designs News

This area will be used to post news and information associated with Bloomfield Innovation, a catamaran design firm.
